Hangin' with the Howlands

We spent the week at the Howland's cabin in Michigan. Mr. Howland and my dad grew up together in Chicago. When my dad was little he used to come here in the summer. It was really cool because the house is right on the water. There was a dock that we could jump off of into the water!
Mr. Howland drove the boat so we could go tubing! It was scary but really fun!!
Here's a short video we took before the camera battery went dead!! Bummer!!

In the middle of the lake there was an inflatable trampoline raft-thingy and a rock wall slide that we played on. There was something called the Katupult that you sit on and then someone jumps on the other end and launches you into the air. I loved when dad or Mr. Howland launched me. I would go so high. It was really fun!!Here's a video-

Besides tubing and playing on the trampoline, we got to do lots of other things too like fishing, collecting guppies, swimming and just hanging out. It was so much fun!

We had a birthday cake to celebrate my dad and Mr Howland's birthdays. They both turn 50 this week. We also had cake another night for Mr Howland's mom's birthday. At night we would play Apples to Apples. It was really fun!
Mom's thoughts--For the past week Jim and I have been taking a walk down memory lane. First visiting my grandma's house, and then spending the week at Indian Lake with Jim's best friend growing up. Besides the beautiful surroundings and days of water-filled activities, we enjoyed reminiscing with Scott and his wife Marlene. Mid-week Scott's parents arrived and we loved hearing stories from their childhood. There's just something special about reconnecting with the past. So Scott and Marlene-thank you so much for hosting us (longer than expected!) We loved every minute of our time together and I know this was a highlight for the kids. We would love to host you in San Diego anytime! ;)
Next up, Jim's hometown Chicago!

  1. What fun! And Scott looks just like his dad. I hope you got pictures of the REAL Mr. and Mrs. Howland, too. For a moment I wondered where Scotty was, then remembered he's Kelly's age.
I was actually thinking of Scotty, Kelly and Drew at your wedding while we were at Carlsbad Jazz in the Park last Friday night. Two little boys (brothers) and and little girl (unrelated) were dancing together, and then a fight broke out between the boys. Lots of head to chest butting. Dad finally had to intervene.

  4. I'm catching up on your blog! I wish I was on this part of the trip! Everything about this visit sounds so much fun! It reminds me of when we used to go to the lake near my family's cabin growing up. Water trampolines are the best - there was one at the camp I used to go to!

I remember the Howlands at your parent's wedding! Their son was about Trevor's age last time I saw him!

Can't wait for you guys to get back!
