So much of what we experience is above ground, but this week we took the time to explore what's going on beneath our feet. We toured a mine, dipped into a refreshing natural spring, and explored the beauty of an underground cave. It blows my mind to think that as I walk along the surface, there is a whole other world below me. It fills me with a sense of possibility--Mom

| We went in a mine and learned about all the different jobs of miners!! We got to travel on a little cart and I thought of it as a motorcycle! When I walked into the mine, two of my thoughts were jumbled together; Wow! and Please don't let the ceiling fall on me!! When we were down there I saw crystals and copper! I really enjoyed being down in the cold but awesome mine!! |
 |
| We went camping in the beautiful Guadalupe Mountains National Park!! I was the chef and cooked dinner for the family-- nachos!! We also took a very long hike to the springs in the hot sun! Soon we arrived at the refreshing spring at dipped our sweaty shirts in the water! While we were walking to the springs we spotted deer walking in the bushes!! I even became a junior ranger and got a badge!!!! |

Carlsbad Caverns!
We went down in the freezing cold caverns and saw many awesome formations! We walked a mile down to the bottom, a mile around the bottom, and mile back out!! I saw stalactites, stalagmites, cave popcorn, and many other cool formations. At sunset, we sat around the cave entrance and watched the Mexican Free-tailed bats fly out of the cave to hunt for the night. It was amazing. |

| My mom and dad surprised me with an digital underwater camera. It's really cool and we had fun taking pictures. |
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteVery cool underwater camera shots!
So how many Jr. Ranger badges do you kids have? Thousands by my count.
Sounds like a great trip so far.
Uncle Robbie
Hi uncle Robbie!! I miss you so much! So far on this trip we have three junior ranger badges!! The only reason my parents bought me an underwater camera, was because I kept on begging them for it!!! I miss you a ton, and I hope I stop by your house on this trip!!!

Hi everybody!
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds amazing! It must have been awesome trekking through the Carlsbad Caverns and flying through the mine on a cart! What has been your favorite experience so far? I absolutely adore Lauren's chef hat that she wore when making nachos for the family! I know that you only left a week ago, but it seems like it has been a really long time.
I hope you are all having a wonderful time on the road!

Hi All! Linda, your thoughts about what's going on under the Earth's surface has a touch point with what I felt the clarinet was like at the Mainly Mozart concert Tom and I went to at the Timken on Tuesday night. The clarinet's music felt like the surface of the river with the other instruments being the underlying currents. The clarinet wasn't on the surface, it was the surface.
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks like you guys are having a fantastic trip!
Love, Nancy
